Abstract

A time resolved Monte Carlo code for light in turbid media was developed to provide an understanding of how localization of absorbers influences the near infrared reflectance signal in such media. In addition, near infrared time resolved reflectance measurements were performed on heterogeneous phantom models. These models were made of low-absorbing polyester resin, which contained a series of tubes with different diameters, which could be filled with solutions of varying absorption coefficient (e.g., intraliped with different concentration of india ink or blood in different oxygenation states).
