Abstract

In this chapter thrombotic microangiopathies are discussed–TTP, HUS, and atypical HUS–including diagnosis and treatment. Pregnancy and drug–induced TM are also discussed. The thrombotic microangiopathies (TMs) are a group of diseases which share the traits of microvascular occlusion, thrombocytopenia, and microangiopathic hemolytic anemia. Common to these diseases are a dramatic presentation and often fulminant illness. Although these diseases share some common characteristics, course and prognosis may vary.
