Abstract
Controversy continues to surround the selection of the ideal diet for treatment of hyperlipidemia and prevention of atherosclerotic vascular disease. This controversy is related to contradictory views about the preferred composition of a lipid-lowering diet. In addition, some physicians also question the utility of diet therapy for treatment of hyperlipidemia. The purpose of this review is to address these issues and to explore the appropriate role of diet therapy in the treatment of patients with hyperlipidemia.
