N2 - The authors present the clinical relevance of molecular genetics to laryngeal cancer in terms of helping to develop novel diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic strategies. They discuss how molecular diagnostics can detect abnormalities in lesions not yet appreciated histologically, and thus detect early recurrences. Patient management with novel targeted therapies for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma in the clinical arena is presented, with treatment options tailored to the individual patient and his or her cancer among them, with the goal of improving clinical outcomes.
