Abstract
Pain management for children following tonsillectomy is challenging and controversial, particularly concerning the use of opioids and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). We discuss a variety of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions that can be used pre-, intra-, and post-operatively for analgesia and review the evidence for their efficacy and side effects. We focus on the technique of partial intracapsullar tonsillectomy and its benefits in reducing posttonsillectomy pain.
