Abstract

Streptomyces lavendulae S985 carried two plasmids, pSL1 and pSL2, pSL2 contained all of the pSL1 sequences plus a tandem duplication of 900 base pairs from a region of pSL1. Sequence analysis of the duplication juction suggested that the duplication occurred by recombination between short direct repeats of as little as 5 base pairs.
