Photonics in computing: Interconnects and beyond

Abstract

With the advent of VCSELs, optical interconnects became pratical for machine-tomachine communication and may soon penetrate inside the machine all the way to chipto-chip communication. This presentation will review the progress made so far to assess future research directions and challenges of photonics in computing.
