Abstract

This discussion has focused on the primary causes of OA due to inhalational exposures to low molecular weight substances. Because of the wide range of substances and the many potentially exposed workers, it is important for the clinician to have a basic understanding of the mechanisms involved. Because there are other low molecular weight substances that could not be discussed in the context of this limited review, the reader is referred to a more comprehensive coverage of the subject in a recently published textbook of OA.
