Abstract
Orthopedic surgeons continue to seek new and better ways to successfully treat intra-articular calcaneus fractures. There is an increasing trend toward managing fractures through minimally invasive techniques. Such practices have been applied with increasing frequency to fractures of the calcaneus. Traditionally, limited-incision treatment has been reserved for Essex-Lopresti tongue-type fractures, but over the past decade practitioners have expanded the practice to joint depression variant fractures as well. The following discussion addresses considerations and techniques in managing calcaneus fractures by a small-incision approach.
