Abstract
Nimbus and the Cleveland Clinic are developing a chronic left ventricular assist system using an intrathoracic blood pump, a parathoracic energy converter, a variable volume device, an internal battery, energy transmission, an external battery, and diagnostic monitoring. The system and tradeoffs involved in selecting alternative approaches are discussed.
