Hormone production by cells grown in vitro on artificial capillaries

Abstract

An established human choriocarcinoma cell line has been grown within a perfused artificial capillary bed. Cell densities approaching those of tissue have been attained. Cells maintained in this manner produce human chorionic gonadotropin at rates 11 times higher than those grown in conventional monolayer form.
