Abstract

Over the past 10 to 15 years many in vitro fluid dynamic studies have been performed on models of the major arteries such as the ascending aorta, carotid bifurcation and illiac bifurcation. However, no such studies appear to have been conducted on the pulmonary artery. Many congenital cardiovascular problems affect the pulmonary artery, and therefore obtaining a fundamental knowledge of the fluid dynamics of the main pulmonary and its two major branches is vital. The extent to which this was achieved is discussed. (from paper)
