Abstract

NORMAL human polymorphonuclear neutrophilic leucocytes (PMN) contain an abundance of myeloperoxidase, a lysosomal enzyme estimated to constitute between 2 and 5 per cent of the dry weight of the leucocytes^1,2. Although the enzyme has been purified and characterized, its contribution to the cellular economy has not been clearly defined. Recent investigations have suggested it participates in bactericidal processes^3,4.
