Abstract

NORMAL human polymorphonuclear neutrophilic leucocytes (PMN) contain an abundance of myeloperoxidase, a lysosomal enzyme estimated to constitute between 2 and 5 per cent of the dry weight of the leucocytes1,2. Although the enzyme has been purified and characterized, its contribution to the cellular economy has not been clearly defined. Recent investigations have suggested it participates in bactericidal processes3,4.
