N2 - The self-association of the acidic chelates Pr(fod)3and Eu(fod)3(fod = 1,1,1,2,2,3,3-heptafluoro-7,7-dimethyl-4,6-octanedionate) as well as the adduct formation of Eu(fod)3 with methyl dimethylcarbamate (TMC) has been studied. All investigations were carried out in carbon tetrachloride solutions. The association quotients for the formation of dimers and trimers respectively are 140 ± 8 M-1 and 45 ± 5 M-1for Pr(fod)3 and 367 ± 22 M-1 and 12 ± 2 M-1 for Eu(fod)3at 37°. The association quotients for the formation of 1:1 and 1:2 adducts of Eu(fod)3 with TMC are (16 ± 6) ⨯ 102M-1 and 107 ± 10 M-1, respectively, at 32°. The effects of water of hydration on the above interactions are also discussed.
