Abstract
Precision and predictable tissue effects are characteristics of laser technology. Although lasers are useful tools in the treatment of many disease processes, there are major obstacles that have prevented lasers from more widespread use. This article reviews the applications of lasers in general surgery today, and the developments that could broaden their use in the future.
