Abstract

Studies of treatment outcome are arguably those most needed in the area of low back pain. Specific and detailed information about how to conduct and report such studies is presented in the subsequent paper on therapeutic trials for low back pain by Hoffman et al. This introduction will attempt to highlight some of the difficulties arising when conducting therapeutic trials for low back pain, as well as to discuss the need for studies in specific areas on back care.
