Abstract

As a benign brain tumor, sporadic vestibular schwannoma (acoustic neuroma) is amenable to a variety of management strategies including observation, surgery, and radiation. Owing to a recent surge in research addressing the pros and cons of each approach, it has been possible to develop patient-centered treatment plans that take into account each tumor's size, anatomy, comorbid symptoms, and a patient's goals of therapy. Careful counseling on the relative merits of each strategy offers the best means of achieving mutually successful outcomes for both patients and providers.
