Abstract

A new DNA polymerase activity present in cells of Escherichia coli has been purified to homogeneity from E. coli polAl. The new enzyme (polymerase II) differs from the previously described polymerase (polymerase I) in chromatographic properties, sensitivity to sulfhydryl-blocking agents, response to antibody, and template requirements.
