Abstract

The application of a phase-shifted, multiple-quantum pulse sequence following Jeener-Broekaert excitation is used to produce population inversion as well as quadrupolar order. The dynamic range and efficiency are improved by converting the doublequantum coherence generated by the Jeener-Broekaert preparation into population inversion, rather than eliminating its effect with phase cycling.
